So, I started drinking hot water instead of cold water this week.
I do not know why I hadn't started this sooner, because I've always loved drinking hot water since first having it with a meal at a local Japanese restaurant. It was winter, and instead of serving cold water, they served hot water, like tea, without the tea.
Well, a few days ago I was watching my favorite YouTube Beauty Guru Queenie Chan and she was giving traditional Asian beauty tips. I like her channel because she is always positive and gives meaningful beauty/health tips as opposed to the typical more superficial beauty gurus (i like those too, but just for the techniques they share) as well as tips for having an all around happier life.
Of Queenie Chan's many tips in this video, the one that stuck out most to me was the hot water.
The idea is that you drink hot water in the morning instead of cold, it is supposed to boost metabolism and be better for the body. Cold water first thing in the morning is rather a shock to the system and in fact I would often feel sick as I would down my first glass of water a day. My solution to that queasy feeling would be to mix in something sour, like pure cranberry or lemon or lime juice.
I can't help feeling a tad stupid though because it isn't as if I had never noticed before that hot drinks feel better first thing in the morning. There have been many mornings that I'd drink tea as my first beverage. In my defense however, I think I somehow made a connection between sour drinks instead of hot drinks as being the solution to the problem, even though the sour drinks only solved the problem to a small degree.
All week i have been drinking hot water, not just first thing, but throughout the day. I can't say I've noticed a difference in my metabolism however i've noticed a few other things
1. I am no longer queasy first thing in the morning which was a problem I'd had for longer than I can remember.
2. I'm no longer queasy after any other meals I eat throughout the day.
3. It's still hot out, but drinking hot water hasn't made me any hotter.
The idea that I won't be queasy any more in the morning will be an incentive for me to eat breakfasts, which I have not eaten for years now and which I am sure would make a world of difference to my slow metabolism.
When I went ahead and told my mother about the warm water instead of cold, she told me that my paternal grandmother used to do the same thing. I had a good feeling knowing that.
